Book Review

Book Review Title--------------Hardy Boy Book Series

This book series is about two brother who are investigators and their friends often solving some mysteriously crimes which seemed unsolvable at first. This is an interesting book as it guides you through the happenings in detail and smakes you feel as if you were solving the mysteries with them. The mysteries at first seemed to lead to nowhere but as the story goes on, the mystery becomes more and more clear. As things begin to happen, there will be more and more clues, thus leading to the final culprit. This is a good book series and I strongly encourage you to read this book series.

Limmerick

Lag Mac

There was a boy called Mac
Who was very lag
His brain was so lag
That he was so frightened by a clap
And a pencil lead
That it made him mad
Till he could not add

Learning Reflections

For this year, I have learnt many things. They are as follows

1)Lamb to the slaughter.

The things that we are required to do for the test is much harder than I have expected. At the beginning of the year, I thought that it would be like our primary school's questions like the comprehensions and MCQs. Then until I have learnt about Language Arts, I was beginnig to feel that the standards here was much higher and we had to do many writing and no MCQ questions at all.

2) Reading Books (Village by the Sea)

Actually, it had not expected the test to be about the book as I had thought that it was just for our reading interest. However, as soon as I knew it was to be taught ands tested, I read through the whole book in detail, not just browsing through. I also learnt about the ABC/SEE format which is really useful.

3)Poetry

I have never encountered poems before and thus has many difficulties with poetry. I feel that poetry is a tough part of Language Arts as poetry requires many understanding and analysis of the poem to fully grasp the true meaning of the poem, thus making it so difficult to master the subject of poetry.

Life Metaphor

Life is an essay, writing down different types of happenings, making them filled with interesting stories.
Going through the essay, you will come to find many sad, angry, happy stories
Which reminds you of your moments in life.
While the author of this essay is you, you control what is written in it

School Days (Poem)

School Days

The days when i was 1.2 meter tall
I got good grades
with no stress at all
and got really good mates

Monday we had good times with football
When John kicked the ball onto Tom's head
With Tom's groan
he got a first aid

When I reached home
my shoe turned from white to black
and got my mother's moan
With a hard cane on the back

Peotry

Be Glad Your Nose is on Your Face by Jack Prelutsky
Be glad your nose is on your face,
not pasted on some other place,
for if it were where it is not,
you might dislike your nose a lot.

Imagine if your precious nose
were sandwiched in between your toes,
that clearly would not be a treat,
for you'd be forced to smell your feet.

Your nose would be a source of dread
were it attached atop your head,
it soon would drive you to despair,
forever tickled by your hair.

Within your ear, your nose would be
an absolute catastrophe,
for when you were obliged to sneeze,
your brain would rattle from the breeze.

Your nose, instead, through thick and thin,
remains between your eyes and chin,
not pasted on some other place--
be glad your nose is on your face!

Figurative Language can be split into these forms:

Simile: None in the poem
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Metaphor: None in the poem
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Personification: "Your nose, instead, through thick and thin,
remains between your eyes and chin,"
A nose would certainly not go through thick and thin and the poet write it this way as to express that the nose would stay on your face forever.

Hyberbole:
"Within your ear, your nose would be
an absolute catastrophe,
for when you were obliged to sneeze,
your brain would rattle from the breeze."

Even if your nose is in your ear and you sneeze, your brain will certainly not rattle and it will not be a catastrophe as the "rattling" would only last for a little amount of time. This is exaggeration but the poet choose to write it this way to show how fortunate are we to have our nose on our face.
__________________________________________________________________
Reason why I like this poem:
I think that the main purpose of the poet writing this poem is to tell us about how fortunate are we to have our nose on our face. He also tries to explain that we must be satisfied that there are many other things in life that we have and that we must be satisfied with what we have and not be still unsatisfied. This is telling the readers to not take things for granted. This is also tell the readers to treasure whatever ever they have.
